Published on 2/8/2016

North Central College presents America’s original jazz dance company, Giordano Dance Chicago (GDC), on March 5 for an evening of innovative choreography and unparalleled energy and elegance.

The performance begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 5 in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Tickets are $35, $25, and $20; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7496) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/show.

Now in its 53rd season, GDC presents a diverse program from a critically acclaimed repertoire featuring emotional, musical and dance styles. GDC has brought American jazz dancing to audiences throughout the United States and around the world, including Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Russia, the Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Turkey and Japan. GDC serves as host performing company at Jazz Dance World Congress, a biannual event held at many national and international sites, including The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

The company received a Chicago Dance Award in 2004 and was featured on the cover of Dance Magazine in honor of the company’s 50th anniversary season in 2013. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, GDC “demonstrated that it now belongs in the front ranks of this city’s resident companies.”

Founder Gus Giordano also founded the Giordano Dance School in Evanston and Jazz Dance World Congress. He created and taught the Giordano Technique at venues in the United States and worldwide, receiving many awards, including the 1984 Dance Educators of America Award, the 1988 Mayor’s Award for the Arts, the 1989 Governor’s Award for the Arts and many more. In 2005, the National Dance Association presented him with its Heritage Award, the highest recognition given by the organization.

North Central College’s 2015-2016 Fine and Performing Arts Season is partially sponsored by BMO Harris Bank, Nicor Gas, Advanced Data Technologies, Savant Capital Management, USG Corporation, Monarch Landing, Naperville Special Events and Cultural Amenities Fund, Illinois Arts Council Agency, DuPage Foundation and Naperville Development Partnership.

This performance is among many ongoing programs at North Central College to enrich and broaden the cultural and academic outlook for the College and community.
