Vocalist Spider Saloff pays tribute to Cole Porter March 24 at North Central College

Award-winning vocalist Spider Saloff pays tribute to American composer Cole Porter March 24 at North Central College.

Saloff’s performance of “Cole Porter, Swell Party!” begins at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in North Central College’s Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $35 and $30; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/showtix.

Accompanied by pianist Jeremy Kahn (“Wicked,” “The Lion King,” “Jersey Boys”), Saloff will perform many beloved Porter classics, including “Night and Day,” “So In Love,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” along with a few rare gems. She’ll interweave stories about Porter’s music and wildly fascinating life with her own special brand of humor, creating an unforgettable evening.

As vocalist, actress, songwriter and playwright, Saloff has received national and international critical acclaim touring with her one-woman shows, “The  Memory of All That” (one of the rare, officially sanctioned acts of the Gershwin Centennial) and a variety of world-class concerts, including her latest project “The Roar of the Butterfly.”

Heard worldwide as co-star and co-creator of the internationally syndicated public radio series “Words and Music,” Saloff performs in venues ranging from intimate jazz rooms to full symphony orchestras. The Chicago Tribune says, “slyly sophisticated, easily accessible, Saloff stands as a kind of ideal.”

Saloff performs throughout the Chicago area and in such nationally recognized venues as New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, San Francisco’s Castro Theatre and the new Jazz Heritage Center. She was featured vocalist with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra in a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald in Millennium Park before an audience of more than 12,000.

Saloff has recorded and performed with such jazz luminaries as Les Paul, Tom Harrell, Nick Brignola, Ray Drummond, Harry Allen, Mark Murphy and Dick Hyman. She has worked frequently with Larry Novak, Tony Monte, Steve LaSpina, Ken Peplowski and Bill Charlap.

Saloff is a five-time Manhattan Association of Clubs and Cabarets Award Winner. She has nine CDs released nationally on Kopaesthetics Records, including her most recent releases, “Cole Porter Live at Maxim’s” and “Ella, Ella, Ella: A Musical Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald.”
