North Central College presents “Monsoon,” an exhibit of art by members of the Naperville Art League (NAL), July 29-September 4, 2016. This exhibit is free to the public and will be on display in North Central’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Many of the exhibiting artists will be present to greet visitors and discuss their work at a free reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 29; complimentary refreshments will be served.
While discussing the show over coffee, Patricia Melekus, Naperville Art League Director of Exhibits, and Nickole Lanham, North Central College Gallery Director, came upon the title and theme of “Monsoon”. Both agreed that the varying interpretations of this theme could provide a variety of responses. The exhibition showcases original two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork by some of the community’s finest artists with a combination of both literal and metaphorical interpretations of the theme. “Monsoons are an incredible force of nature and when you walk into the gallery you are overcome with a sense of power and beauty” explained Jessica Segal, Assistant Director of Fine Arts. “The artists’ interpretations run the gamut, from landscape paintings of torrential rains to works of art that speak to the cultural and allegorical connotations of the theme.”
A nonprofit organization, NAL has been inspiring passion in the arts in the community for more than 50 years. Members include both professional and emerging artists with varying levels of training. “Monsoon” marks the fourth collaboration between NAL and North Central College and strengthens the long-standing partnership between the two. Artists exhibiting include: Bill Austin, Cynthia Boudreau, Chris Breier, Joe Eddy Brown, Charlotte Cziperle, Chris Hughes, Susan Janssen, Joan Kalmanek, Sue Keller, Robert Koch, Cosette Kosiba, Khrystyna Kozyuk, Patricia Melekus, Janet Pearson-Strack, Neil Pradzinski, Gary Schirmer, Brian Shanahan, John Walker, and Robert Yurgaitis.
