North Central College to present 25th Gospel Extravaganza on Jan. 26

North Central College’s 25th Gospel Extravaganza on Jan. 26 will feature performances by Dexter Walker and Zion Movement Chorale and other acclaimed choirs.

The musical celebration starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, in North Central’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Tickets are $15/adults, $10/senior citizens and students; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/showtix.

Performers at this year’s anniversary celebration include North Central College’s own Voices of Praise gospel choir and a choir comprised of Voices of Praise alumni. Also performing are the Wheaton College Gospel Choir, DuPage African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church Voices of Praise Gospel Choir and praise dancer Glorielle Williams.

Chicago-based Dexter Walker and Zion Movement Chorale has more than 80 members under the direction of founder Dexter D. Walker. The chorale performs a diverse repertoire of traditional and contemporary gospel music along with skillful choreography. Zion Movement has performed with gospel artists nationwide, including Albertina Walker & The Caravans, Dr. Bobby Jones, Chicago Mass Choir, Bishop Walter Hawkins, Dewayne Woods and more.

The Wheaton College Gospel Choir includes 50 students from all over the United States and several countries and is led by director Tanya Egler, a talented vocalist and recording artist. The DuPage AME Church’s Voices of Praise Gospel Choir is a 25-five voice adult choir based in Lisle that spreads the gospel and ministers to the needs of others through contemporary gospel and praise and worship songs.
 
The annual Gospel Extravaganza is part of Martin Luther King Jr. Week at North Central College. King spoke in North Central College’s Pfeiffer Hall in 1960. This year’s celebration Jan. 20-26 includes musical tributes, a prayer breakfast, activities and keynote presentation by actor, author and philanthropist Hill Harper.

Nicor Gas is underwriting sponsor of Martin Luther King Jr. Week at North Central College. Navistar is underwriting sponsor of North Central College’s 2012-2013 Fine and Performing Arts Season. The season is partially supported by USG Corporation and a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
